Managed Aquifer Recharge showcased at New Zealand Hydrological Society 2016 Conference
Nov 28, 2016
The Hinds / Hekeao and Poverty Bay Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) projects will feature in an entire afternoon session dedicated to MAR at the combined conference of the New Zealand Hydrological Society and the Australian Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium, to be held in Queenstown, New Zealand from 28 November - 2 December 2016.
The MAR programme features Golder New Zealand's Principal Hydrologist, Bob Bower reporting on the preliminary results of the Hinds / Hekeao Pilot project, which was launched in June this year, and also discussing the next steps to develop the project from a pilot into a full groundwater replenishment scheme. Golder's Eric van Nieuwkerk will discuss infiltration test pits, and Clare Houlbrooke on using MAR to develop a groundwater replenishment scheme in Poverty Bay.
The Golder Integrated Water Management Systems (IWMS) has also recently had an article published in Water Journal No. 196, published September 2016 by Water New Zealand. The article discusses Managed Aquifer recharge and its application to sustainable groundwater management for catchment scale water quality and quantity issues.
Our Integrated Water Management Systems (IWMS) team can introduce you to the wide range of MAR options available to suit site-specific requirements, from direct bore injection through to more passive methods such as surface infiltration ponds or the use of constructed wetlands.
